Decorazioni
Decoration is the technique used to enhance spaces and their contents; decoration includes frescoes, decorative or landscape murals, but also polychrome on columns or cornices to improve the depth and movement of the molding, simple or particularly ornate decorations of coffered ceilings, trompe l’oeil, gilding on mortar surfaces, or faux fixed furniture made of paint.
Since time began, people, in their constant quest to copy and surpass nature, have experimented with techniques to extract color essences from minerals and plants, arriving at the pulverization of precious minerals to amalgamate them with natural or synthetic resins or additives to maximize the enhancement of the pigment, so that its application can best express the idea of beauty, uniqueness or near perfection.
Throughout the centuries, man has tried different types of pigments to bind to natural resins, organic glues, proteins, or flours, even incorporating lime and grasses to give vibrancy to the furnishings.
Over the years, in our laboratory and with the help of various qualified collaborators, we have experimented with many types of paints used in the past to reproduce them and use them in the restoration because the knowledge of the material and its use, with the precise technique of use, is the only way to know how to work on an ancient artifact.
However, to work on decorated surfaces, it is necessary to ensure that the support is sufficiently intact, which is why, over the years, we have specialized in the conservation of both wall supports (to carry out pictorial restoration work on frescoes or polychrome and gilded decorations) and wooden supports.
Over time, our passion for conservation, the pleasure of working with the material, and our curiosity about the various essences of wood have led us to carry out numerous restoration works in wood, from inlaid and paneled furniture finished with shellac to simpler furniture finished with natural wax to ceilings, coffers and gates that require care, integration of the material and attention to the surface, finished with the most appropriate material for the purpose they are to fulfill.
